Welcome to the Rappahannock River District!

We are 74 United Methodist congregations with one uniting vision.  Our congregations, ministry settings, and people are very diverse but our passion is to Make Disciples.

We seek to Make Disciples through four entry points: Unity, Spiritual Formation, Empowering Our Laity, and through Mission ministry in our neighborhoods, throughout our Conference, and around the world.  We value lay and clergy as equal and effective partners in ministry.

Most importantly, we invite you to connect with one of our congregations of ministries to grow deeper in faith and to transform the world for Jesus Christ.

THE 2020 GENERAL CONFERENCE HAS BEEN POSTPONED!

Hello all,

During this time, the youth council and I, in particular, have been paying close attention to the health concerns surrounding us today. I urge us all in this time of uncertainty to continue to pray and trust in our Lord "who will never leave you or forsake you." (Duet. 31:6) Our call as God's Soldiers is to wear our Armor proudly so that we might take a stand against the Devil and his schemes (Ephesians 6:11). I ask that we continue to lift our voices and praise to heaven trusting and placing our faith in our Lord and Savior.

Continuous monitoring of the situation has been and will continue as a top priority as we seek to provide the safest and best experiences for our youth and for those around us. I am also keeping a close eye on the retreat and all implications that may affect the event. As it stands today, March 16, there have been no alterations made to the retreat schedule. Please keep in mind the fluidity of the situation and details may change as more information is received. And as aforementioned, continue in your prayers that we might discern the will of God.

The Youth council meeting scheduled for April the 19th is still meeting. Please bear in mind that as with the retreat, this information is subject to change as the situation continues to evolve.

If you wish to be updated on this information as it comes available, I encourage you to watch the district website, follow our facebook page at https://fb.me/RRDYouth (Rappahannock River District Youth) or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Once again I pray for all of your safety, health, and joy. I have faith in God that he will lead us in the way that leads to righteousness. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time.

Hello all,

Due to the recent health concerns revolving are COVID-19, all church services in the Virgina Conference have been canceled for Sunday March 15th and March 22nd. As such, we find it prudent to take similar precautions for our upcoming youth events. As such the following changes have been made:

The 30 hour Famine hosted by Shady Grove, originally scheduled for March 20-21 has been postponed to a further date. This date will be determined in the future as we continue to watch the situation at hand.

The Youth Council meeting originally scheduled for March 22 has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. As of now our meeting on April 19th stands as scheduled.

I will continue to keep you updated as I have more information. Thank you all for your support. Please keep healthy and be sure to wash your hands!

The Rappahannock River District (RRD) Scholarship Program

unnamed

Higher Education has always been a hallmark of the United Methodist Church. The value of resources for continued learning and higher education is fundamental to United Methodism. In keeping with our tradition of supporting higher learning, the Rappahannock River District (RRD) of the United Methodist Church has created a Student Scholarship Program.  The program is maintained and administered by the RRD and is not connected with any other United Methodist board, agency, or entity.

Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who meet the program criteria as funding allows. Persons eligible to apply are those who are attending or who plan to attend a college, seminary or trade school and are members of a United Methodist Church on the Rappahannock River District.

Upcoming Events

Have you struggled to engage the children, youth, young adults, and older adults in ministry and mission together? Often, we separate our ministries by age. What does the youth group want to focus on? What do the older adults want to be involved in? A gap and a lack of understanding exist between generations these days caused by all kinds of societal issues and technologies. We even find that to be the case in the church. We as the church have an opportunity to bear witness to how multigenerational individuals of a congregation can work together in mission and ministry. This is especially important with rural churches that have only a handful of children, youth or young adults. How can we involve everyone and collaborate to do the best ministry we can together?

We would like to invite all clergy and at least 2 laity from every congregation to our next Discipleship Training Event on Saturday, April 18, 2020.   The training event with lunch will be at Wright's Chapel from 10 am-2 pm. Bryan Tener, the Director of Contextual Evangelism, Community Engagement & Church Planting, will be here with us from Discipleship Ministries and will lead a workshop on how to go out into our communities to do ministry with a multigenerational team.

Pastors, RSVP to Lynn with a total number that will be attending from your congregation by April 10 for the lunch meal preparation. Please let her know of any dietary restrictions as well.
